Destination Goa for 15 Harley Davidson riders from the city

Fifteen Harley Davidson riders from Kolkata will join thousands of their counterparts from all over the country to take part in the grand show called the 4th India Harley Owner Group (HOG) rally in Goa on Thursday.

Jitendar Sarin, an ex Air Force officer is leading the Bengal riders. The riders have left the city on Tuesday and will reach Goa via Bhubaneshwar, Visakhpattanam and Hubli.

Long distance biking is now the recent trend among the youth in Kolkata. There are clubs in Salt Lake and Bhowanipore where owners of Enfield Motorcycles are members. Long distance tours are organized by these clubs every year. Sukanya Pal, a long distance biker is now a name in the biking arena because of her successful trips of Leh- Ladak and Siachin. There are also some women members in the Enfield Clubs.

Harley owners take out their powerful bikes and go to Durgapur via NH2 every Sunday which is a spectacle to see. 

The Harley Davidson has a showroom in Kolkata and there are more than 1500 heavy duty Harleys in the city.

On February 19 there will be grand parade in Goa where the owners of Harleys all over the country will take part. The Big 5 patch is the most prestigious award given to a Harley owner. It is given to riders who have completed all the four zonal rallies and the national HOG rally in Goa. 

The motto of Harley Davidson is to spread the biking spirit among the like-minded youth. Harley meets are held in USA, Australia and New Zealand. A best seller, by Robert Prisig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance gives a beautiful narration of touring experience on a Harley Davidson. Irfan Ahmed, a Harley owner who does long distance biking quite often said”:“It is the test of patience, perseverance and mental strength of the riders who enjoy riding.” 

The slogan raised by Harley Davidson is: Live to Ride and Ride to Live. The century old US bike manufacturing company was set up by John Harley and Davidson brothers.
