Deputy EC to visit city

Ahead of the schedule visit of the full bench of the Election Commission (EC) to the city on March 14, the Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena who is in the charge of West Bengal is coming to the city on Saturday to assess and monitor the poll preparation in the state. Saxena will convene a high level meeting with the Election officials including the District Election Officers (DEOs). Maintaining law and order during the election will be the top priority. Saxena will take a stock of the security arrangements taken up by the EC officials in the state. He may ask the DEOs how the central forces were utilized during the confidence boosting exercise among voters especially in the sensitive pockets of various states. What steps should be taken to ensure free and fair elections in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) divisions would also be discussed in the meeting. The Deputy Election Commissioner may also look into the detail arrangements taken by the senior election officials in the state. This time the EC had taken up some new initiatives such as setting up model polling stations where the voters can avail some particular facilities. Some polling stations will be controlled by the women. In many districts the polling stations would be situated on the first floor so that elderly people do not face any inconvenience .

According to a senior official of the EC, the Saxena will hold a number of meetings with various officials to assess the poll arrangements. Few days ago he had held a meeting with all the DEOs and Commissioners and Superintendent of Police through video conference to monitor the poll preparations.
