Depressed bizman sets himself ablaze

A 45-year-old businessman allegedly set himself ablaze and later succumbed to his burns at his house in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Thursday.

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Vimal Sethia. He used to live with his wife and two children in the A block of the area. Few days back, he had a fight with his wife who left with the children and started living in Vivek Vihar.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of depression due to domestic dispute as the motive behind the businessman’s death.

“There was a blast in the gas stove in Sethia’s kitchen and he was burnt. His neighbours found smoke coming out from his house and informed the police. Sethia was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his burns. We have started the investigation,” said B S Gurjar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East).

The official further said that no suicide note was recovered from the house. Police have registered a case and are trying to ascertain where it was a suicide or an accident.
