Departmental store employee misbehaves with girl, dismissed

An employee of a departmental store was arrested for allegedly “molesting” a college goer inside the store at Netaji Nagar.

Police said the girl went for shopping on Saturday evening. She had asked the employee to clarify some of her queries. The employee Sumit Razoar passed some lewd comments at the girl and made indecent gestures.

The store was packed with people when the incident took place. The girl, who is a student of law, told the employee that she will be lodging complaint against him. But the youth continued disturbing her, stopping only when some others those were also present at the place of the store raised their voice against him.

She went to the higher authorities in the mall. She alleged that they too took it lightly despite saying necessary actions will be taken.

She had dialled the helpline number of the police but for some technical reason she could make the call despite trying for quite a few times.

On Sunday the girl lodged a complaint with the Netaji Nagar police station. Policemen immediately went to the departmental store along with the girl and arrested the youth.

The youth was given bail when produced before the Alipore Court on Monday.

The police had asked the store authorities to give the footages of surveillance cameras but were told that the area where the incident took place was not under the coverage of the surveillance cameras. The police also interrogated some employees of the store.

In a tweet, a senior most official of the departmental stores claimed that the accused has been dismissed for his gross discipline and breach of code of conduct. The store manager, who was on-duty, when the incident took place have also been “terminated” due to dereliction of duty.
