Demanding hot food, youth hit with tandoor rods, dies

A 22-year-old succumbed to his injuries on Monday at a city hospital where he was admitted after being allegedly attacked with tandoor rods for demanding hot food at a restaurant in East Delhi.
The police arrested two of the assailants. Meanwhile, <g data-gr-id="23">search</g> operation is on to nab the remaining three persons who attacked the victim, identified as Rahul, on Friday night.

Bhairon Singh Gurjar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East said: “We found out the whereabouts of the two absconding suspects hiding in Punjab and Sonepat. Teams have been dispatched to the two places to nab them.”

The eatery has been shut since both the restaurant owner and staff have either been arrested or are absconding after the incident. The police have converted the attempt to murder case into a murder case after the victim succumbed to injuries.

Rahul had gone to Haryana Hotel in East Delhi’s Mandawali on Friday evening and ordered a meal. Finding the food cold, he complained to the hotel owner which allegedly prompted them to attack him with baseball bats and iron rods apparently used at the hotel’s tandoor oven.

The assailants fled from the spot immediately after the incident. Rahul’s family was informed of the incident by some bystanders. He was rushed to a nearby hospital which referred him to a private hospital in the area.
