Delhi’s Traffic woes

The city witnessed massive traffic jam on Monday. The traffic was affected due to demolition of buildings in the Kalindi Kunj - Noida roadway since 9 am in the morning. The roads like Mathura road, Mithapur road, Amrapali marg, Okhla road and  Ashram faced heavy traffic snarls through out the day.

Metro being overcrowded, especially during peak hours, many opted for autorickshaws, which worsened the jam.

‘These autorickshaw drivers are charging double the amount,’ said Aruna Mishra, a home maker.

‘ I was on my way to a movie theatre in New Friends Colony, but it took me one hour to cross Kalindi Kunj. Usually it takes just 10 minutes,’ said a college student.

The routes were diverted as major demolition of some buildings were in process along the Noida–Kalindi Kunj road. ‘ Traffic was diverted to Mithapur road, Amrapali marg, Okhla road and Mathura road, causing immense traffic blocks on these stretches.

‘I left for home from Jamia Nagar and have been stuck in front of Okhla flyover for 30 minutes on Ring road,’ said Manish Arora, a public relations executive, heading towards Saket.

Severe inconvenience was created to thousands of commuters.
