Youth kills 17-yr-old girl who rejected him

18-year-old Sarthak Kapoor strangled his former schoolmate to death on Wednesday evening in park in Rohini Sector 17.

NEW DELHI: In a tragic incident, a minor girl was strangulated to death by a former schoolmate in west Delhi's Rohini.
Police said the culprit, 18-year-old Sarthak Kapoor, was arrested immediately, after suspicions were raised by the victim's father over his involvement.
After cops questioned the boy, he disclosed the spot where he murdered Shreya Sharma, a Class XII student of a private school in Delhi.
Later in the day, Kapoor was arrested.
Police said the body of 17-year-old Sharma was found around 5 on Thursday in a lane near her house in Rohini's Sector 17.
"On Wednesday evening, the two had met around 5.30 pm. The girl was on her way to tuition class and had gone to a park in Sector 17. The two then reached a nearby narrow lane, where a scuffle took place between them.
The accused then overpowered her, grabbed neck and strangled her to death," said Rishi Pal, Deputy Commisioner of Police, Rohini.
When the girl did not return home till 8.30 pm Wednesday, her father Yogesh Kumar, a bank employee, contacted Sarthak and his father.
Initially, the accused denied any knowledge of the incident. However, after sustained questioning, he confessed to the crime.
Sources said that on Wednesday evening, Sarthak had fought with Shreya for not talking to him and instead chatting up other boys.
Soon, an infuriated Sarthak attacked her, eventually killing her.
"We had already complained about the boy with the school authorities. Despite having passed from the school, he often used to trouble my daughter," Yogesh Kumar said.
When investigators confronted him, Sarthak initially attempted to misguide them.
However, he soon broke down and confessed and led them to the spot where he murdered Shreya.
The culprit was pursuing BCA from a private institute in Delhi.
