Workers' death: Rs 10 lakh compensation, job to kin

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of each of the three sanitation employees who died while cleaning a gutter here.
The chief minister also promised a government job to one family member. "A financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh shall be granted to the affected families. One family member of each of the victims would be given a government job," he said.
While meeting the family members, he also discussed various issues with the local people who were agitated after the incident."I have ordered a probe. Those who are guilty will not be spared and punished under the law," Kejriwal said.
The CM also directed the Water Department to review all the guidelines set for the sewage workers and also report the developments to the him.
He said that a high powered committee would examine why such incidents were happening and required action would be taken to check them.
The water department also agreed with the CM's direction and ensured that they will review the guidelines and also formulate new guidelines. The water minister informed that no manual sewage cleaning will be allowed in the city.
The Delhi Assembly on its first day of the monsoon session observed condolence for the deceased workers. The speaker of the assembly also observed that the government should take strict action against these incidents. The Government ensured in the assembly that strict action would be taken and also informed about the decision of compensation.
