Woman who looted pedestrians after offering lift arrested
New Delhi: She sat with the robbers to gain the confidence of the potential targets as the victim felt comfortable sitting in the cab with the robbers thinking he has just been offered lift. Just as they drove, the gang looted the victims, while the woman too snatched wallets and other belongings with her associates. After a gym instructor was robbed in a similar fashion in Delhi's Dwarka after he was offered lift on January 17, the Delhi Police realised that they had a tough case in hand. On Wednesday, the whole gang was in police custody including the woman.
"They disclosed that their modus operandi was to roam during late night along with the woman in search of soft targets. They used to offer lift and the presence of the female member helped them in gaining trust of the commuters," said DCP Dwarka, Anto Alphonse.
The gym instructor stated that while he was returning home after work and waiting for transportation at DwarkaMor as he has to go near NSIT,, a car (taxi) arrived and the complainant took lift on that car. The complainant boarded the taxi after seeing that one woman along with 3 other persons is already travelling in the taxi. When the complainant reached near NSIT gate and requested the driver to stop, but the driver didn't stop and took him towards Rajapuri. On the way, the 3 boys along with the woman robbed his mobile phone, purse and other documents at knife-point and left the complainant on the road.
The police team collected the data about the taxi used in commission of crime from Transport Department, Haryana and Ola and Uber cab companies. On analyzing the received data, a taxi was zeroed in and the owner of the said taxi was interrogated, who disclosed that he had already sold the above taxi to a resident of Nihal Vihal, New Delhi. On sustained interrogation, he disclosed that the said taxi was being driven by his step son Neeraj alias Sagar.
On January 23, raids were conducted and all the three accused persons along with woman were arrested. Their names revealed as Sunny (21), Sandeep Kumar (32), Neeraj (20) and one woman (name withheld), age 25 years were apprehended from the area of NihalVihar, New Delhi.
