GHAZIABAD: Two unidentified bike-borne assailants on Thursday shot dead a woman in Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad District, said police.
The incident took place in broad daylight and only a few metres away from the nearby police station. The victim has been identified as Rama Chaturvedi, a 27-year-old native of Rudrapur city of Uttarakhand.
According to police, on Thursday morning, while Chaturvedi was leaving for office, the assailants made a call on her mobile phone and asked her to come downstairs.
After she reached downstairs, one of the two men opened fire on her from close range. Two bullets struck her and she collapsed to the ground, while the assailants managed to flee the spot.
"The girl was later taken to hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead" said a police official.
"The incident makes it clear that the accused were known to the victim. Prima facie evidence indicates a one-sided love affair as the motive behind the incident. But we are trying to cover all possible angles in our probe. Eyewitnesses are being questioned and CCTV footage of the area will also be looked into. We have also asked for call details of the victims, which will help us locate the criminals" the official added.
Talking to reporters, Anoop Singh, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, said: "Before the assailants opened fire at the girl, they had a talk with her over something. Suddenly, one of the assailants shot her and both the men fled the spot. A case has been registered against the unidentified criminals. The body has been sent for post-mortem and the family members of the victim have been informed."
