Woman raped during burglary attempt, four held

Gurugram: The law and order situation in the city yet again faltered after a married woman from Bengal was allegedly raped in a burglary attempt by four unknown persons. The incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday in the posh area of Sector-56.
Police said the woman along with her husband had gone for an outing and was returning back in their vehicle when the husband stopped the car in order to relieve himself. Meanwhile, the driver also took a break to drink. Seeing the opportunity of the woman sitting alone in the car, four burglars allegedly committed the crime. Even though their main motive was to steal the car, one of the culprits allegedly raped the woman. They then left the woman and escaped with the car.
An official investigating the case said that her husband was also allegedly beaten by those miscreants.
Meanwhile, the accused have been arrested by the Gurugram police who have filed the formal complaint and begun their investigations.
The incident further exposed as to how the citizens in the city are susceptible to heinous crimes even in those areas which are densely populated. Earlier, a 12-year-old girl was abducted from Sector 35 area. She has still not been recovered by the law enforcement officials.
On January 15, a college going student was gang raped in Farrukhnagar, which is on the outskirts of Gurugram.
Ironically on Monday only in the main city centre of Sector 14, unidentified men in an SUV tried to abduct a 20-year-old airhostess in broad daylight. She, however, escaped and filed a complaint.
The shocking incident came to light at a time when the state has been shaken by six gang-rapes in four days.
In 2017, there have been 133 incidents of rape in Gurugram and 16 incidents of attempt to rape.
The city is also second in the list only to Faridabad in having highest number of sexual crimes against minors.
