Woman hit by vehicle on Eastern Peripheral Expressway, dies
Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old girl was found dead at Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Masuri area of Ghaziabad on Monday morning. Police officials said that the girl had died after getting hit by an unidentified vehicle.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Monika Naagar, a resident of Ikla village in Masuri area.
"At around 9:30 am, we received a PCR call from passerby who reported the matter. A police team immediately rushed to the spot and found that the woman was lying in a pool of blood by the road side. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival. The body was sent for the postmortem while victim's family was informed," said Om Prakash Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Masuri police station.
Police suspect that the girl was killed while she was trying to cross the road.
"It seems like the girl had been hit by an unidentified vehicle while she was trying to cross the road. We have found a bag containing few identity cards and mobile phone which help us to identify her. Her family members have told us that she was preparing for government services and had left home around 9 am to attend her classes in Delhi," added Singh.
Singh further said that based on the complaint received for victim's family, an FIR under section 289 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of Indian Penal Code has been registered against the driver of unidentified vehicle at Masuri police station.
Meanwhile, one of victim's family members informed that Monika had done her Bachelors in arts from a private college in Ghaziabad and was preparing for SSC and UPSC exams. He elder sister, Sonika Nagar, also works for UP police and has been posted as constable in Meerut. Monika's father passed away around five years ago and was also retired from head constable with UP police in 2008.
