Woman held for running car over dietician

A woman has been arrested on Thursday for running her Scorpio car over a dietician after a speeding Mahindra XUV hit the doctor in the Press Enclave road in Pushp Vihar, Saket.
The driver of the Mahindra XUV is still absconding. The condition of the dietician, identified as Vernita Garg, 26, is said to be critical in ICU and is on ventilator. The dietician works at PSRI Hospital near where the accident took place.
The XUV hit the victim as she got down from the bus and was crossing the road to go to Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute (PSRI Hospital). Some of her colleagues were just behind her when the incident occurred on Monday.
"The impact of the accident was so much that the victim was thrown about 20 meters away. As she fell down, another speeding car, a Scorpio, got her under the wheels and left her profusely bleeding," said Ranjeet kumar who works as a security guard in PSRI Hospital and was travelling in the same bus as Garg.
"Both the cars were moving zig-zag in high speed," he added.
After the accident, the security guard noted the partial number of the car and informed the police. Garg was immediately shifted to the emergency unit of PSRI.
She has received grievous injuries all over the body, including major head injuries, said police.
"We have registered a case under sections 279 ( rash driving ) and 338 ( causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety). One accused who drove the Scorpio has been identified as Preeti and has been arrested. Efforts are being made to trace the other car," said DCP South Ishwar Singh.
