New Delhi: A 28-year-old woman, wife of a TV channel employee allegedly committed suicide at the residence of her in-laws in Balbirnagar in Delhi's Shahdara district on Monday evening.
The deceased, Deepensha, locked herself in her room and allegedly hung herself from the ceiling fan after a verbal argument with her in-laws. It is said that the in-laws did not give her transportation money to go to Ghaziabad from where she was pursuing B.Ed course, which proved as the sudden provocation for the extreme step.
The family of the deceased woman had cried foul and said that the in-laws were troubling her ever since her marriage in November 2014. "They did not call police instead they told me that Deepensha has locked herself in her room at 6:30 pm. When I reached their house at 9:15 pm on Monday, the door was still locked. We broke open the door only to see Deepensha hanging from the fan," said Rakesh Kumar Sharma, the father. She was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Police said that the family has alleged that in-laws mentally harassed her and often demanded money.
"Deepensha was an MBA graduate, she always wanted to be independent and hence she enrolled herself in a B.Ed course. The in-laws asked her to get the money from us. I paid Rs 40,000 for her admission. Now, they weren't even ready to pay her the transportation," said Deepensha's father Rakesh Sharma.
Deepensha has a one and a half year old daughter. Cops have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
