Woman gunrunner, who evaded cops for years, held
When Delhi Police received a tip-off about the location of Mobai, they knew it would be a big catch for them.
The 45-yr-old woman from Madhya Pradesh, notorious for dealing in illegal firearms, had been dodging police for more than 15 years.
However, on July 26, the Special Cell of Delhi Police finally managed to nab her from Shastri Park in Seelampur and arrest her. Cops seized 14 pistols and 14 spare magazines from her possession.
During interrogation, Mobai revealed she had collected the weapons from a manufacturer in Gandhwani in Dhar district, MP, and were to be supplied to various contacts in Delhi-NCR and Western UP.
She also admitted that she had supplied weapons in those two areas to different persons on several occasions in the last 15 years.
Nicknamed 'Computer' for her dodging skills, she gained expertise in sending cops a wild goose chase, as she never carried a mobile phone and changed trains frequently while travelling.
Mobai was so smart that she would get down three kilometres before a bus stop to avoid being detected by police informers.
"It had come to our notice that arms manufacturers and suppliers from MP are supplying sophisticated firearms in Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas of UP. Accordingly, a team of Special Cell was deputed to identify the gang in Delhi-NCR.
"This team worked diligently and relentlessly by deploying informers in and around Delhi-NCR, MP and Western UP," said DCP, Special Cell, P S Kushwah.
Mobai has been found to be involved in three cases of arms supplying registered at Warla, MP, Sagar, MP and Special Cell, New Delhi. Earlier, she and her associate Samsu had been arrested under the Arms Act by the Delhi Police Special Cell, when they were found in possession of nine pistols.
Mobai used to work as a farm labourer, but her income was insufficient to fulfil her basic needs. She soon came in contact with arms traffickers in Barwani and Dhar in MP and soon started supplying illegal arms for local arms traffickers. She used to collect illegal semi-automatic pistols and supply them on a commission basis.
