Woman given her dues during maternity leave after DCW's help

Intervention from the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) helped a woman employee of a private company get her three months' salary of maternity leave benefits, which was earlier denied by the company she worked in.

The woman, working as a senior merchandiser in a leather garment company in Okhla Industrial Area, was given maternity leave for three months. However, she was denied payment against the leave which amounted to Rs 1,08,000.

The complainant approached DCW seeking help regarding the same. She told the Commission that when she had taken leave in December last year, the HR department had promised her paid leaves. But when she went to ask for her dues in February, she was denied the same.

"The complainant approached us after which a notice was issued to the company. Following the proceedings, the company accepted their fault and paid the amount due," a DCW official said.
The Commission also stated that payment of salary against maternity leave is a mandate under the Maternity Benefits Act, 1961.

DCW has been working efficiently and effectively for more than a year, easing the lives of women and children in and around the city. DCW's 181 women helpline number has been successful in rescuing many lives from being ruined.
