Gurugram: In a dramatic development on late night Thursday, a woman in her 20's was forced into an SUV by certain armed men from Sector -9 area and drove a distance of more than 7 kilometres.
For a city that has already in the headlines for the lack of security, however on Thursday night, those in the SUV were daring enough to drive in the highly secured areas of the city that included passing through the Gurugram Commissioner's office.
Shockingly, the car also passed through the police barricade without any hurdles.
There have been complaints that are levelled that the people in the car were allowed to go scot free as they were heavily armed while the police personnel present at that moment did not possess guns.
While there have been criticism over the workings of the police, on a positive front the situation highlighted the power of a citizen.
During the entire stretch the SUV where the woman was forcibly dragged into the car was chased not by a police vehicle but a vehicle of a private resident named Rupen Kataria from the time the girl was picked up to the time she was dropped.
In following the vehicle, the person did not only alerted the nearby police officials but also made a Facebook video of the entire situation so that he can receive more assistance during this difficult time.
Adding more twist to the case, the parents of the woman have filed a complaint for kidnapping, however the police have registered the complaint under section of domestic violence.
"It is a case of inter- family conflict. The woman complainant in her statement has stated that she was not kidnapped. We have begun our investigations and will soon make headway into the case," said Sumit Kumar DCP (West) Gurugram.
Gurugram is constantly in news regarding the lack of security of women after this brazen incident once again highlighted their vulnerabilities as even after the Gurugram Police said to have increased security in areas.
This event has occurred at a time when residents in the Millenium city are still are coming in grip of the recent high profile stalking cases that have occurred in Sector-18 and Palam Vihar. Both the incidents occurred within days of each other.
After these crimes, the Gurugram Police claimed that following incidents of crime against women, the security has been increased.
