Woman dragged, punched by chain snatchers in Inderpuri

New Delhi: A lady was dragged punched and pinned to the ground by snatcher riding bike after they snatched a chain she was wearing in West Delhi's Inderpuri.

The incident is said to have taken place on Monday when a woman was on a morning walk.

As she was walking towards her house, two men on bikes stopped near her. One of the pillion riders got down from the bike and followed the woman.

Unaware the biker attacked the woman by holding her neck by his arms. The woman resisted the snatching attempt and tied to save her chan trying hard to get out of the grip of the snatcher.

However, the snatcher succeeded in pinning down the woman to the ground and snatching the gold chain she was wearing.

The other biker who driving the bike positioned the bike to flee when the pillion rider was doing the snatching.

The snatcher then quickly sat on the bike and fled while the woman took some time to gather senses and get up.

The incident is captured on the CCTV installed in the area. The 36-second video showed the entire episode of horror. The police is also analysing the video and trying to identify the robbers. Some people have also been detained in this regard, however, no arrest is made so far.

"We have made teams to arrest the duo. A case has been registered and the investigation is on, we are hopeful the snatchers would be arrested soon," said Monika Bhardwaj, DCP West.

Police said that a total of 6,642 cases of snatching were reported in 2018.

In a similar incident, a woman was followed by a biker in Model Town area of North West Delhi and the pillion rider snatched the chain of the woman leaving her in shock and grief.

The incident is said to have taken place on 30 April at around 7 pm when the woman was returning from a temple.

"We decided not to file a police complaint, as I am scared for the safety of my wife. However, the incidents of snatching are rising in the area and my wife is just another case," said Dhiraj Gupta, husband of the victim.
