Woman dead, husband critical after large pile of iron bars falls on them
Ghaziabad: A 35-year-old woman died, while her husband was critically injured, after a big pile of iron bars fell on them from a truck moving in National Highway-24 area of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad late Sunday night.
Police said an FIR has been registered against the truck driver, and also against the officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) and National Hihgways Authoirity of India (NHAI), at Kavi Nagar police station.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Sonia, a housewife, who was on her way back home with her husband after attending a wedding function.
"The couple were on a bike and heading towards Misalgadi area. When the two reached Lal Kuan area, a large pile of iron bars fell on them from a truck moving in front of them," said Samarjeet Singh, station house officer of Kavi Nagar police station.
Locals made a PCR call and rushed the couple to a nearby hospital, where Sonia was declared brought dead on arrival. Her husband is being treated in the ICU.
"The cause of the mishap was the potholes on the roads and the overloading of the trucks. Locals have also informed us about the trucks driving without reflectors. We have registered a FIR under sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code against the offending truck driver, who is absconding and also against the officials of PWD and the NHAI," Singh added.
