Woman cop molested in Gurugram, one arrested

Gurugram: The recent incidents of crime has raised a lot of questions of women security in Gurugram but now, not only ordinary citizens but women in khaki are not spared as a woman cop of Gurugram police has registered a complaint on Sunday evening stating that she was molested by few drunk men.

A complaint under Section 354-B (criminal assault against woman) has been registered at the Bilaspur police station by the woman police official. The reports says that the cop was harassed by three or four drunk men following an argument on an issue. One of the men has been arrested in the case.

Even though the police have tried to downplay the entire situation, the incident has once again reflected the upward trend of molestation cases that is being committed in an open and brazen manner.

According to police, molestation comes second in list of crimes against women in the district after domestic violence. In 2014 and 2015, there were 124 and 178 cases of molestation but in 2016 there was an increase with over 320 cases. Till now, more than 200 cases of molestation have been registered in 2017.

Most of the men who are involved in these acts are able to get away easily as it is a non-bailable offence, the law enforcement agency stated.
