Woman bludgeoned to death in Gurugram, husband on run

Gurugram: In a horrifying case of suspected domestic violence, a 24-year-old woman was on Friday found at her home brutally murdered after being hit multiple times with a hammer and an axe. Gurugram Police said the woman's husband, currently the prime suspect, has been missing.
Police said the incident was reported from Prem Puri area near Jharsa road, where the victim Veera and her husband Ashok had been living in a rented accommodation for over four years, along with their two-year-old daughter.
Ashok, who belongs to Haryana's Sirsa district, works as an engineer in a private firm in the city.
According to the neighbours, on Friday morning, they heard the cries of the two-year-old. The landlord then entered the house and found Veera's body lying in the pool of blood, beside the weapons used for her murder.
Police were immediately called after which a team reached the spot and took the woman's body for post-mortem.
A case of murder was then registered at Sadar police station.
Sources said that the brutality of the act suggests that the murderer wanted to mutilate Veera's body with the axe, but changed his mind at the last moment.
"As of now, the main suspect seems to be Ashok, who has been absconding since the incident. Our team will get hold of him soon. We sent the body for post-mortem and seized the weapons used for the murder," said Inspector Ravinder Singh, spokesperson, Gurugram police.
The murder of the 24-year-old mother came as a shock to the neighbours of the couple.
According to one neighbour, even though there used to be a few squabbles between the couple, it was never expected that it would take a murderous turn.
"It is an extremely unfortunate incident. There used to be loud voices of screaming coming from their house. But we never interfered, as it was their own personal matter," said Jaiveer Thakran, one of the neighbours.
