With mercury rising, MeT says 'no rain till Tuesday'

Ruling out the chances of rain within the next two-three days, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) indicated a sultry weather ahead. The experts in RMC clearly mentioned: "There isno possibility of any rainfall till Tuesday. The maximum temperature of the day would increase to 36 degrees Celsius." Meanwhile, doctors suggested a series of precautionary measures.

"As the days are getting hotter and it is the time to protect yourself from the heat waves, drinking minimum two litre water is an absolute necessity. A bottle of drinking water should be carried while travelling on the road," said Dr Surjya Jyoti Choudhuri.

Children and senior citizens should be taken care of the most as they easily get affected by heat and suffer from heat-related health problems. "I would say, please avoid standing under direct sunlight and wear sunglasses to protect the eyes," Dr Choudhuri added.

People may suffer from severe heat-related problems like heat strokes, cramps and dehydration. People who are much exposed to the sun are at higher risks.

Most of the doctors opined that dehydration may be caused by water depletion or depletion of salts from the body. This is one of the most dangerous conditions that arise due to complete loss of fluids and water content from the body. In such a case, a patient needs to be immediately admitted to a nearby hospital for immediate medical assistance.

"People should avoid spicy food, especially street foods. Eating fruits during summer is also very necessary," another city-based doctor said.

The city is presently receiving southwesterly winds coming from areas where the temperature is already high. The heat waves are increasing the highest temperature thereby, pushing the levels of discomfiture.
On Saturday, RMC recorded 35.1 degrees Celsius, which was the maximum temperature. The minimum temperature of the day was pegged at 25.6 degrees Celsius, which was 3 degrees above the normal temperature for the season.
