Wife of IAF officer crushed to death
Ghaziabad: In a tragic road accident, a 53-year-old wife of an Indian Air Force officer was crushed to death after a speeding truck hit her when she was riding pillion on a motorcycle at Hindon bridge in Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad on Sunday evening.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Karuna Mishra, a resident of Indian Air Force colony in Ghaziabad. "The woman was travelling on a motorcycle along with her husband Kamal Mishra (55), who works as a Junior Warrant officer with Indian Air Force," said police.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 4 pm when the victim was going with her husband to meet one of his colleagues in Raj Nagar extension area. "A speeding truck hit their motorcycle from behind and couple fell on the road but somehow the woman's saree got stuck into the truck and she was dragged to nearly 200 meters along with the truck and sustained severe injuries," said reports.
"A few passerby conveyed information to police and a team rushed to the spot. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared the woman dead on arrival while her husband has been critically injured. Police have seized the truck but the driver fled from the spot after the incident," said JK Singh, Station House Officer of Sahibabad police station.
"Following the incident, an FIR under section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Sahibabad police station," Singh added.
