Wanted criminal nabbed after shootout in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: In a successful encounter on late Tuesday night, Ghaziabad police arrested a wanted criminal from Vijay Nagar area of under Sihani gate police station.
Police said on Wednesday that the criminal, identified as Mursalim, sustained a bullet injury in his right leg, while a police constable received bullet injury on his left arm.
Sources said that on Tuesday night, the accused was seen travelling on a scooter, along with an accomplice, and was signaled to stop for police checking.
However, Mursalim refused to stop and after police started chasing him, he opened fire on them.
The police party retaliated with a few shots, which led toe Mursalim losing control of the scooter and slipping on the muddy road.
Taking advantage of the late hours, his accomplice managed to flee the spot, while police successfully gunned down a criminal.
Police said that Mursalim, a native of Ghaziabad's Sahibabad area, was the leader of D-50 gang, which is involved in numerous incidents of dacoity, robbery, murder and extortion.
"Around 24 cases have been registered against the accused person in various police stations across Delhi-NCR. Somehow, his accomplice Mohammad Raza managed to flee the spot and raids are being conducted to nab him," Vinod Kumar Pandey, station house officer, Sihani gate police station, said on Wednesday.
Upon searching Mursalim's belongings, police recovered a country-made pistol of .32 bore, live cartridges and the white scooter.
Meanwhile, the injured constable, identified as Irshad, is receiving treatment at a hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable, police said.
"Upon interrogating the accused, he confessed to have shot at a businessman in Ghaziabad to rob him on January 30. He had earlier opened fire on policemen in 2016 during a shootout, but had managed to flee," added Pandey.
