Wanted criminal held after encounter in Gzb

GHAZIABAD: After a fierce exchange of fire between policemen and criminals on Wednesday morning, Ghaziabad Police successfully nabbed a wanted criminal with over 29 cases registered against him in various police stations of Ghaziabad and nearby districts.
According to police, during Wednesday's encounter, two policemen sustained bullet wounds during the encounter against the accused Harendra and his accomplice.
However, in the retaliatory firing, the accused also took a bullet to his leg and was soon overpowered. He was taken to Kailash Hospital for treatment.
The encounter took place near Hindon River in Rajnagar extension around 6 am on Wednesday.
"The arrested criminal, along with an accomplice, was travelling on a motorcycle when the police spotted them and asked them to show documents related to the two-wheeler. The criminals immediately opened fire on the police officials, injuring two policemen, sub-inspector Saurabh Shukla and constable Arun Kumar. They were rushed to Kailash Hospital, where doctors said their condition was stable," said Akash Tomar, Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad.
Harendra, is a resident of Muradnagar, with over 29 criminal cases registered against him in Ghaziabad and Noida, said police. His accomplice, who managed to escape, has been identified as Shiva.
Police have seized an illegal pistol and couple of live ammunition from Harendra.
Appreciating the good work done by the Sihani Gate police station officials, Tomar said: "We really appreciate the commendable job done by the officers. Our team will now conduct search operations at various locations to nab the partner of the accused."
