Vivek Joshi now to head GMDA, V Umashankar promoted

Gurugram: Vivek Joshi, Principal Secretary, Monitoring and Coordination Department and Commissioner of Ambala Division, has been posted as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). V Umashankar, the earlier CEO of GMDA, has been posted as Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister. Hailing from Prayagraj, the 52-year-old is a Haryana-cadre IAS officer from 1989 batch.

Joshi has played a significant role in overseeing the development of Kundali-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway as he was appointed as the CEO by the government for the project. He was Principal Secretary posted at Monitoring and Coordination Department.

His earlier stints included Chief Administrator, Trade Fair Authority, Director, Swarna Jayanti Haryana Institute for Fiscal Management. He has also worked with the Government of India where he served two terms –2001 to 2006, 2010 to 2017. His experience can prove to be extremely handy for his new role as a GMDA Chairman which is primarily undertaking various development works.

The project, expected to cost over Rs 100 crore will allow officials to inspect major services like street lighting and CCTV functioning.
