Vinay Singh appointed new MCG commissioner

Gurugram: Vinay Singh who was earlier the commissioner of Hissar division has now been entrusted with the responsibility of being the of new Municipal Corporation of Gurugram ( MCG) commissioner. Singh is the officer from IAS (2003) Haryana cadre.

Besides being the MCG commissioner, Singh is also holding the responsibility of being the secretary of Haryana government's forest department. He has earlier served as the deputy commissioner of Sonepat. Co-incidentally he was transferred to the senior post of commissioner in Hissar only in February this year.

In his new role of being an MCG commissioner Singh will have to tackle challenges of increasing the revenue of the municipal body along with improving the cleanliness levels of Gurugram.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) that was formed in 2008 has quickly emerged as the richest municipal body of the state. Despite its huge budget however, the civic body has not been able to tackle major challenges like bad quality of internal roads, poor waste segregation system and water woes that continue to irk the citizens. Even as MCG now have begun to take stringent action against property tax defaulters, challenges now remain of expanding the base of taxpayers.

There have been various charges of corruption that have been levelled at MCG especially on the issue of not penalising the residential properties that operate as illegal guesthouses and commercial complexes. Environmentalists have criticised the MCG officials of not finding a solution to effectively recycle the waste at Bandhwari landfill site where 1,200 tonnes of waste from Gurugram and Faridabad is dumped daily.
