Vigilance team finds squatters on city roads, wants anti-encroachment drive
New Delhi: The Vigilance Branch of Delhi Police carried out checking of traffic corridors where they found plying of commercial vehicles whose permits have been suspended, movement of illegal 'Dagmar' buses on the roads and also timings of traffic signals may be reappraised as per the actual volume of traffic.
Sources told Millennium Post that checking took place on more than 20 corridors and stretches in the city. Aurobindo Marg to Andheria Mor, Mathura Road-Neela Gumband to Badarpur Flyover, Chirag Delhi crossing to Savitri Flyover, Mehrauli Badarpur Road- T point-Anuvrat Marg to T-point Mathura Road-Pul Prahlad Pur, MB Road to IGNOU Chowk, Mehrauli Gurgaon Road-CDR Chowk to Petrol Pump Dera Mor, Shanti Path-Moti Bagh, Dhaula Kuan flyover to GGR flyover-Sanjay T Point, Sardar Patel Marg-11 Murti to Dhaula Kuan, DG Gupta road-Paharganj to Jhandewalan, New Rohtak Road-Idgah Crossing to Kamal T-Point, Patel Road-Pusa to Moti Nagar, Najafgarh Road-Jakira Moti Nagar Chowk to Dwarka Mor up to Najafgarh, Rohtak road-Rampura to Mundka, Road Number 43 Britania Chowk to Anukampa Chowk, Pankha Road-Uttam Nagar to Sagarpur, Dr MC Davar Marg- Haiderpur to Sector 18-Rohini T Point, Pushta Road-Khajuri Chowk to Chilla Border via Shastri park were among the areas where the Vigilance Branch of Delhi Police conducted the checking.
Sources added that at Miyanwali Chowk, traffic chaos was seen during heavy marriage season in night due to five to six banquet halls located at this intersection while on Rohtak Road from Rampura to Mundka areas slow traffic movement was reported due to the movement of jugad vehicles; tractors which were prohibited were seen plying on the stretch; badly broken road was found on Rohtak road.
"In some areas, footpath was badly occupied, Dhabas were obstructing movement of pedestrian, private buses were illegally parked, movement on the wrong sides leading to traffic chaos were also mentioned in the report," sources said.
In some areas, showrooms had parked their cars on roads, during checking the obstruction in vehicular movement was noticed and unauthorized parking of vehicles were found.
Highly placed sources told Millennium Post that a letter was written to senior officers in which it was stated that the reports may be circulated to both Special CPs (Law and Order) and Special CP (Traffic) with the instructions to immediately carry out joint encroachment removal drives in coordination with local civic agencies. "Concerted efforts may also be made against illegal, improper parking of private buses, trucks, e-rickshaws, TSRs, cars, two-wheelers and taxis of these identified corridors. Concerned Special CPs may be asked to submit action taken report after month also fixing responsibility for willful negligence or dereliction of duty," sources said.
