Valiant women bank employees foil bank heist

It was the courage and composure of Vimla and Poonam, two female bank employees, that they not only thwarted an armed burglary attempt at the SBI money transfer branch but also played a heroic role in the arrest of two burglars.

On Monday afternoon, two burglars identified as Mohit and Deepak tried to commit a daring heist at SBI money transfer branch located in Sohna road, Badshahpur.

Even as they were armed with country-made pistols and tried to scare the employees, it failed to scare Poonam and Vimla, who overpowered the armed burglars and even snatched their weapons.

Displaying calmness in the intense situation, the two then decided to not attack the two robbers but call the passersby so that both Deepak and Mohit can be handed over to police.

There are reports of Vimla and Poonam also playing a key role in pacifying the situation after the crowd turned violent and started beating Deepak and Mohit mercilessly.

Both Vimla and Poonam will be felicitated by the Gurugram Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar for their valour.

"It feels good that I have played an important role in not letting the burglars steal the hard-earned of the customers. I now wish to live a normal life and perform my responsibilities diligently," said Vimla while commenting on her heroic act.

Speaking on the valour of Poonam and Vimla, SHO, Badshahpur area said, "There is no denying the fact that the real credit for the capture of Mohit and Deepak goes to the actions of Poonam and Vimla. The two ladies were instinctive in their actions. They realised that both Deepak and Mohit, even though were armed, they were very nervous while carrying out the heist. They utilised this opportunity and played a key role in the capture of the two burglars.

"The Gurugram Police will like to exhibit the courage and composure of the two brave women. Vimla and Poonam have shown that ultimately it is not only the police which is responsible for solving the crime but also the bravado of citizens is of supreme importance for reducing crime in the city, "said a Senior Police officer.

Even as the burglary attempt was thwarted by the courageous act of Poonam and Vimla, this is the second attempt of a daylight burglary at a bank branch in less than three months.

On February 9, more than 30 kgs of gold was looted from a private finance company located in the heart of the city in a daring daylight robbery. The burglars were later arrested by the Gurugram Police.
