UP govt asks YEIDA to fast track Jewar airport project

Greater Noida: The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to expedite the process of preparing an updated detailed project report (DPR) for the Jewar airport project, said a YEIDA official.
YEIDA has been appointed as the nodal agency to set up the international airport in Jewar, Greater Noida. The authority will work on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government in land acquisition for the airport. Also, the authority holds the responsibility to appoint a consultant to upgrade the technical-feasibility report and prepare a DPR before starting the process of land acquisition.
According to officials, the UP government has expedited the formalities so that work can be started at the earliest. Following which, the government granted a fund of Rs 1000 for the airport project. "The government has assured us a fund of Rs 1,000 crore, likely to be released in a month. We need a total of Rs 3,000 crore to acquire land in the first phase. We will begin the initial process of land acquisition once the funds are released," said Shailendra Bhatia, Officer on special duty (OSD), Yamuna Expressway authority.
"We have decided to hire a consultant soon to carry out the Techno Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Expression of Interest (EOI) for inviting the agency will be uploaded on YEIDA's website by Saturday. Soon we expect that a revised DPR will be prepared and submitted to the government for further consideration," added Bhatia.
