UP Chief Secy suspends erring municipality officials in Gzb

Ghaziabad: Four erring municipality officials including the inspectors of sanitation and electricity department were suspended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary R K Tiwari during his surprise visit to Ghaziabad on Monday. All the officials were suspended after it came to light that they did not attend complaints on the spot.

The Chief Secretary reached Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) office around 9:25 am on Monday and took stock of cleanliness and sanitation arrangements inside the premises for which he lashed the municipal officials after he saw unattended garbage piling up outside the GMC office while the toilets were also not properly maintained.

He later visited the area surrounding the municipal office and found that the vehicles

were not properly parked while potholes at the entrance of municipal office and poor sewerage system disappointed him more. The Chief Secretary reached back the municipal office and expressed dissatisfaction over the sanitation and cleanliness drives undertaken in the city.

He then checked the complaint register to ensure redressal of the complaints. One by one, the Chief Secretary started calling the numbers of complainants who had lodged their complaints. He found that none of the complaints were addressed properly while the concerned official never visited the spot to attend the complaint.

Following this, the Chief Secretary suspended the inspector of sanitation department and inspector of electricity department for not attending the complaints on time and their proper redressal. Apart from this he also took similar action against two other staffers and directed to take strictest actions against the in-charge of complaint department. He directed the officials to improve the situation in next one months or else get ready to face actions.

Further addressing media, the chief secretary said that he has directed the officials of municipal corporation to improve the situation and some other officials from his office would visit the city again to ensure that all the required improvements have been done. "During my visit, I found a lot of loopholes on part of municipal corporation and I have directed the officials to make improvements. Garbage was piled up behind the municipal corporation office only which should not be there while the complaints were also not addressed properly. We have taken actions against a few officials and some of them have been suspended," said Tiwari.
