Unable to return gangster's money, man joins his gang

NEW DELHI: Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested a gangster and sharpshooter of Neeraj Bawania gang, Raj Kumar (38) after a brief shoot-out with police party at Rohini-Bawana Area. Accused Raj Kumar, a resident of Bawana Delhi, is wanted in six heinous criminal cases including four murder cases. He was also declared Proclaimed Offender by the Court. A cash reward of Rs 1 lakh was declared on his arrest by CP, Delhi.

During interrogation, accused disclosed that on March 14 he came to meet his associates in Prahladpur where they were to plan a crime, but before that he was apprehended by the police team. Accused also disclosed he had borrowed some money from the brother of Neeraj Bawania, Pankaj Bawania, which he was unable to return, hence he started working for Bawania gang. He became sharp shooter for Neeraj Bawania gang and he committed several murders and extortions in the area of outer Delhi as well as Rohini Court complex upon their directions. Accused has many criminal involvements.

The accused was arrested from Prahladpur Road near Ram Chowk on March 14. On warning to stop and surrender, the accused started firing bullets at the police team which hit the bulletproof jacket of SI Anand Kumar. Police team also retaliated in the line of self-defence and to deter the criminal, in which one bullet hit the right leg of the accused due to which accused was grounded and was apprehended by the police team.

"One English, semi-automatic pistol with loaded three live cartridges has been recovered from his possession. Two rounds were fired by the accused,whereas, retaliating police team fired five rounds in total. The police personnel had lucky escape as they wore bulletproof jackets. Injured was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment," said DCP Special Cell, Sanjeev Yadav.
