Unable to pay debt, man jumps off building to his death with daughter

New Delhi: A 35-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of a building in Shahdara's Jagatpuri area. Police said that the deceased was in depression after he was unable to pay the debt.

At around 3 am on Monday, Suresh Kumar took his daughter and went to the terrace of the building and jumped along with his daughter from the terrace. His wife was following him and when she saw the incident, she too jumped off the terrace.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said that while Suresh Kumar, a resident of Jagatpuri, died, his wife Manjeet Kaur (31) and daughter (4), were injured.

"He was in tension as Kumar was not able to pay the debt," said DCP Yadav adding that investigation is going on in this matter.

Police were informed about the incident by the neighbours after they saw the three lying on the road. They were rushed to the hospital where Suresh Kumar was declared brought dead while his daughter and wife suffered injuries, police said adding that they are receiving treatment at the hospital.

The facts were coming that the debt amount was Rs 8 lakh and when asked about the same, a senior police officer said it is being investigated.

The other angle which is being probed by police that whether he was under stress as the banks kept calling and messaging him every day to pay the amount.

"Facts have surfaced related to credit card bills and it is being investigated," police sources said.

Police said the condition of Manjeet Kaur and her daughter are stable now.

Suresh Kumar's body was handed over to his family members after post-mortem, they said.

Suresh Kumar was working in a private company in Gurgaon, police said. The family lived on the ground floor of the building.
