UGC joint secy's son abducted & robbed at gunpoint, 3 held

Noida: Three criminals have been arrested by Gautam Buddh Nagar police for allegedly abducting and robbing the son of a joint secretary in University Grants Commission (UGC) on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday from sector 52 metro station of Noida.

Cops said that the accused persons abducted and kept him hostage for nearly four hours in his car before dumping him at a petrol pump in Ghaziabad.

According to police, the arrested criminals have been identified as Suraj Singh (26), Aman Budakoti (25) and Manish (23), all residents of Sarfabad village in sector 49 area of Noida. "Suraj and Manish are 12th pass out and works as driver at Amazon company while Aman is 10th pass and is a bus driver," said police.

The alleged incident occurred on the intervening night of September 19th and 20th at around 12:30 am when the victim Anuj Goswami, producer with a media house, was returning home alone in his ford car after meeting a friend in sector 76.

Anuj's father Surendra Singh, joint secretary in UGC department under Ministry of Human Resource development said that while returning home, his son had stopped his car at a kiosk near sector 52 metro station when three persons approached him and took him on gunpoint.

"The accused persons started thrashing him and pushed him to car's rear seat. They drove the car to different places and kept on thrashing my son all along as he has injury marks all over his face, neck and other body parts. The criminals also stopped the car at an ATM and asked Anuj to withdraw money but the transaction failed. In a hurry the criminals drove car rashly and twice hit the car into divider. They later rushed towards Ghaziabad but the car broke down at Reliance petrol pump in Ghukna area in Ghaziabad after getting over heated. The criminals fled away leaving the car and Anuj at the spot but they took all his money, mobile phone, laptop and other valuables," said Singh.

However, Anuj, hired an auto and returned home around 6:30 am and narrated the ordeal to his family. The car was later pulled by a crane.

Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Buddh Nagar said that police fetched the CCTV footage from sector 52 metro station and reliance petrol pump to identify the criminals.

"Acting on the complaint received, a police team was formed from sector 49 police station to work out the case. Police identified the criminals with the help of CCTV footage from the petrol pump and they were arrested from sector 52 metro station on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. We are interrogating them to know about their involvement in other criminal incidents," said Krishna.
