Uber driver held for trying to abduct woman passenger

NEW DELHI: A white number plate, mismatched identity of the driver and tinted glass was all that a woman who booked an Uber cab noticed when she was travelling from Kundli in Haryana to her residence in Rohini, Delhi, on March 9.
To her horror, the driver made advances towards her while he took the vehicle to a secluded spot.
She soon realised that he was taking a different route than the one she used to usually take for her home. There was more to her ordeal when she tried to get out of the vehicle at a traffic signal, the driver locked the doors using central lock and threatened her.
When the car went ahead further and slowed down at a CNG station near GTK depot, she sensed the the opportunity to unlock the door and jumped out of the car. She immediately rushed to the police station and registered a complaint.
Sensing the seriousness of the matter, the police immediately formed teams and were sent to Sonipat, Haryana.
"When our team reached the village, they found the driver in the drunken state. On questioning, his name was revealed to be one Sanjeev, resident of Gannaur, Haryana. He used to drive the vehicle even though he was not registered as the driver of the vehicle.
"It was also found that the vehicle was running without a commercial number plate. He also did not have a driving licence. He has been arrested," said Aslam Khan, DCP (North West).
