Two-year-old girl crushed to death by speeding tempo
two-year-old girl was crushed to death after she came under the wheels of a tempo near her house in Narela here on Thursday morning.
According to the police, the accident took place while the victim Shilpi was playing in front of her house. She was later hit by the speeding tempo passing by the lane of the residential colony.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the tempo driver fled the spot despite the fact that a crowd had tried to avert his escape.
"Some locals started screaming and ran after him. As some of them gathered on the spot he sensed that it will be difficult to escape, he jumped out of the tempo and ran away. The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead," said a senior police officer.
The vehicle has been impounded and the owner has been identified.
The officer said that that the parents of Shilpi work at a private company in Narela.
Locals and witnesses told police that at the same time a speeding tempo approached her and before she could move out of the tempo's way, the vehicle hit her.
A case for rash driving and under IPC sections 304A for causing death due to negligence was registered and efforts to nab the accused driver are being made.
Police are also checking the CCTV footage to ascertain the exact sequence of incidents.
