Two robbers strike Central Bank in Shahdara, one nabbed after chase

New Delhi: In a daring daylight robbery, two masked robbers entered the Central Bank in Farsh Bazar area of Shahdara and looted Rs 9 lakh at gunpoint. The two men held the staff and customers hostage for a few minutes before fleeing from the spot. However, the alert public chased and caught hold of one of the two accused with the help of policemen and the entire amount was recovered.

The initial investigation revealed that both the accused came from Amroha in UP and stayed at Loni overnight before striking at the Central Bank in broad daylight. The police are now searching for the absconding accused.

The incident occurred at Central Bank, Farsh Bazaar between 3:30-4 pm wherein two criminals entered with firearms and looted 8,89,000 Rs from the customers in the Bank at gunpoint and ran away. The alert public gave a chase to the robbers as one of them stumbled. Soon, the public caught one of the accused with the help of police beat staff and PCR.

The entire amount was recovered along with the country-made firearm with bullets and a knife. The vehicle (motorcycle) used in comemission of crime has also been seized. "On preliminary enquiry, it has been revealed that the two accused started from Amroha Railway station, UP on intervening night of September 24-25 with the intention to commit crime as they were in desperate need of money. They reached Bhatia Railway station, Loni, UP and stayed over night," said DCP Shahdara, Amit Sharma.

Both the accused started on September 26 from Bhatia Railway station, Loni, UP on motorcycle and headed towards Farsh Bazaar. After committing a crime, when they were trying to escape, one of the accused identified as Vikas, a resident of village Dhanora, Distt Amroha, was nabbed. The police have identified the second accused who is still absconding and teams have been formed to arrest him.
