Two minor girls smothered to death by mother

New Delhi: A woman in west Delhi's Moti Nagar reportedly killing her two minor children, with Delhi Police saying that the woman – reported to be mentally unstable – will soon be sent to a hospital for counselling.

Police said on Friday that the woman, mother to three daughters, smothered two of them to death at their residence in Zakira area.

At the time of the murder, the third daughter was at a neighbor's house at the time.

The father of the deceased children is a mechanic, while their mother used to work as a domestic help in the locality.

Police said that the incident came to light on Tuesday, after they received PCR call from the parents about the girls lying unconscious.

A police team rushed to the spot and took the girls to the hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said that during investigation, they discovered that it was the mother who smothered her daughters to death.

Police also claimed that during questioning, they realised that the woman is mentally unwell.

During questioning, she was reportedly incoherent and confused.

The case is being investigated from different angles, including the woman's belief in black magic and godmen in the area.
