Two killed in road accident at Eastern Peripheral Expressway

Greater Noida: Two persons were killed while a man was critically injured after two trucks collided on Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Dankaur area of Greater Noida late on Monday night. Police officials said that the incident occurred due to dense fog which caused low visibility on road.

According to police, the incident took place around 12:00 am near Naurangpur village. Among the victims, Monu (21) and Manoj (20), both natives of Rajasthan, died while Ravinder was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi.

"Late on Monday night, police received a PCR call from passerby who reported the incident. A police team rushed to the spot and found that the two trucks, travelling from Haryana to Delhi, rammed into each other while the occupants were critically injured. Somehow police along with highway patrolling team managed to pull out victims from the vehicles and they were taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared two persons dead on arrival while a man suffered severe injuries and he has been admitted to hospital. The bodies were sent for post mortem examination and further investigations into the case are underway," said Raj Pal Tomar, Station House officer of Dankaur police station.

The officer further said that the area was engulfed with dense fog and suspected that the incident occurred due to low visibility on road.

"Prima facie it appears that the incident was a fallout of poor visibility on road due to dense fog. We have not received any complaint in the matter. However, necessary police investigations are underway," Tomar added.

It took hours for police to rescue victims from the mangled trucks and even the traffic was disrupted for few hours due to the mishap.

On Monday morning also, three persons received critical injuries when nearly a dozen vehicles piled up at Eastern Peripheral expressway near Beel Akbarpur village in Dadri area of Greater Noida due to heavy fog.
