Two killed as speeding truck rams into auto rickshaw

New Delhi: A speeding truck rammed into an auto rickshaw and crushed to death an 18-year-old girl who was returning from school along with others at Mukundpur Red light in Bhalaswa Dairy on Wednesday afternoon. The girl has been identified as Shikha, a student of class XII in Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Nehru Vihar. However, as the truck driver tried to flee, he hit some others injuring three more. The truck while taking a turn at Azadpur Loop overturned killing the driver on the spot.

The PCR received a call at around 2:05 pm that a truck rammed into a battery rickshaw injuring at least three to four people. As the police team reached the spot, it found that the vehicle has injured two school children and a public person. It was known that as the people started gathering and the crowd swelled after the accident, the driver panicked ran away with his vehicle from the incident point towards Azadpur.

People who have gathered at the spot said that it was driver's fault and the accident happened as he was trying to overtake and hit the children in the process. Later, in an effort to flee he caused the second accident. "At Azadpur loop his vehicle overturned in which the driver died. The name of the driver who expired was Rajan. He was a resident of Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. The body has been sent for the postmortem," said DCP North West Aslam Khan.

Soon the injured were rushed to the hospital where Shikha was declared brought dead. She was a resident of Mukundpur, in North West Delhi. The two injured have been identified as Kanchan and Umesh.
