Two held for duping people on loan pretext

NEW DELHI: Delhi police has arrested two impersonators-cum-fraudsters who used to dupe innocent persons on the pretext of providing loan against insurance policy on low-interest rate. Six mobile phones, six sim cards obtained on fake IDs, ATM Card, Pan Card have been recovered from their possession.

A complainant from Rajouri Garden approached police and said that he is maintaining an insurance policy for him and his wife. On April 10, he received a phone call from Laxmi Gupta on his mobile number, who offered him a loan amounting to Rs10 lakh against his insurance policy. The complainant wanted to expand his business, therefore, he agreed for loan and requested the caller for sanctioning the loan. On this, Laxmi Gupta told the complainant to firstly deposit 10% of the loan amount, which is refundable within 24 hours. The complainant refused to deposit an amount of Rs.1 lakh, but he agreed to deposit an amount of Rs. 65000/-. Then complainant deposited an amount of Rs. 65000/- in the bank account provided by the Laxmi Gupta. Thereafter, Laxmi Gupta blocked the mobile number of the complainant in order to avoid him. After technical surveillance, Delhi Police arrested a woman Preeti Chauhan and her associate Manoj pal were arrested from Rohini.

"During sustained interrogation, accused Preeti disclosed that she and Manoj Pal are the main conspirators of the nexus. Accused Preeti used to introduce herself as an officer/executive of a reputed finance company and lure the clients on the pretext of providing lucrative loans against insurance policies. She used to tell her fake name to victims in order to hide her identity. While calling, she used to tell her name as "Laxmi Gupta" and "Radhika". Both the accused used to induce the innocent persons to deposit money in various fake bank accounts," said DCP West Monika Bhardwaj. They had been using fake mobile SIM cards for calling the complainants/customers. After using these fake SIM cards for some days, they used to destroy the same.
