Two engineering students killed in road accident
Noida: Two engineering students, including a girl, were killed after their two-wheeler rammed into a roadways bus from behind at Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Sunday afternoon. Police officials said that the bus driver had applied brakes to move passengers down and the vehicle coming from behind rammed into it.
The victims, Utkarsh Singh (21) and Vaishnavi Gupta were third-year engineering students at IIMT college in Knowledge Park area of Greater Noida.
According to police, the incident occurred around 12:45 pm near sector 168 of Noida on the E-way when the victims were on their way to Noida from Greater Noida. The bus driver suddenly applied brakes to ride-off passengers, however, the speeding two-wheeler coming from behind could not apply brakes and rammed into the bus. Cops said that the impact of collision was such that the two-wheeler was badly crushed and steeped under the bus.
"Police received the information from a passerby upon which a team rushed to the spot. The victims were rushed to Jaypee hospital in sector 126 where both the students succumbed to injuries. The bodies have been sent for the postmortem and their families have been informed," said Vinod Singh, officer-in-charge of Expressway police station.
The officer further said that they have seized the bus involved in the incident while the driver managed to flee the spot and is still absconding.
"The yellow bus belonged to Noida depot and travel between Greater Noida to Noida. The bus driver is absconding after the incident," added Singh.
Cops said that Utkarsh hailed from Allahpur area in Prayagraj and Vaishnavi from Pandeypur area of Varanasi.
