Two arrested in Nithari building collapse incident

Noida: Following the building collapse incident which claimed life of a kid, Noida police on Tuesday arrested the building contractor and his son for their negligence while carrying out the demolition work of the three-storey building. However, the owner of building is still absconding since the incident.

The building collapse took place on Monday evening in Nithari area of Noida when a portion of the building collapsed on a narrow street apparently to the house which was being demolished for renovation purposes. Passerby on the street were trapped in the debris. A 10-years old boy, Luv Subba of Darjeeling was killed in the incident as while three children, identified as Barkha Sharma (17), Sonali Yadav (18) and Shakeel (12) sustained severe injuries.

According to police, an FIR was lodged against three persons based on the complaint filed by deceased Luv's aunt. The FIR was registered against owner of building, contractor and his son under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304 A(causing death by negligence) and 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings).

"Police have arrested two persons, identified as Moinuddin alias Minu (59), and his son Sonu (26) in connection with the case. The arrest was made on Tuesday afternoon from the Nithari T-point. They will be produced before the court and will be sent to jail," said Manoj Kumar Pant, Station House Officer of sector 20 police station.

The officer further said that the owner of the building is still at large while efforts are being made to trace him as well.

"The owner of building, identified as Vijendra Awana, is absconding while teams have been formed to trace him and soon we are expecting to make the arrest," added Pant.

Meanwhile, Shailendra Kumar Mishra, city Magistrate of Noida said that there has been improvement in the condition of the victims while the district administration are making efforts to provide financial assistance to those who have been affected in the fatal incident.

The officer further said that the administration will also conduct an drive to identify similar rickety structures and demolition them.
