Two arrested for murder, robbery in north east Delhi

NEW DELHI: North East Delhi Police have arrested two persons for killing a man in North East Delhi's Seelampur.
Police said the accused, identified as Rihan (32) and Faizan (24), were arrested on Wednesday on the basis of a tip-off that they would come from old GT Road, Shastri Park towards Dharam Pura Red Light near Bihari Building to meet a person.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Devender Arya told reporters on Friday that the accused were asked to stop, but they still tried to flee the spot, leaving their motorcycles behind.
"When police tried to apprehend the accused after a short chase, both of them pulled out their pistols and aimed it at the police party. However, during the commotion, their bullets missed the police party," said the DCP.
After a small scuffle, both the accused persons were subdued and arrested.
Police claimed that in the course of their interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were unemployed and in acute financial crisis, and were in desperate need of money to fulfill their ill desires.
To this end, they decided to commit the robbery at the residence of Jafar Kureshi, and murder him.
"The accused disclosed that one Anwar offered them money to murder Jafar Kureshi, as Anwar wanted to monopolise the illegal scrap trade in the area," police said.
The accused reportedly told police that Qureshi used to take money from illegal scrap dealers/transporters in areas of western Uttar Pradesh.
