Trio involved in multiple robberies arrested

NEW DELHI: Three men involved in more than nine criminal cases have been arrested by west Delhi Police.
Police sources said that the trio, consisting of Umesh, Azad Ahmed and Shanawaz, used to target people in dark and/or secluded areas at late night hours, choke them and rob them at knife point.
On November 11, police received a tip that Umesh would come to Mayapuri Road on a stolen motorcycle to commit a crime along with Azad Ahmed and Shahnawaz. On identifying the three men, a police team nabbed them.
DCP (West) Vijay Kumar stated that during interrogation, the accused disclosed Umesh had recently been released from jail.
To look after his expenditure, he formed a gang with Azad Ahmed and Shahnawaz, and started committing robberies on the road. They would use a stolen motorcycle for their criminal acts. Ahmed, an expert biker, would ride the motorcycle at a very fast speed, as Shanawaz and Umesh sitting behind him would snatch mobile phones, bags etc.
"Sometimes, if the victims resisted, they would even stab the victim with the knife," said the DCP.
