Treat for mango lovers in Janakpuri
New Delhi: Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday kicked off the Mango Festival here in the Capital, organised by Delhi Tourism in association with the Delhi Government. The event at Dilli Haat in Janakpuri area was also attended by the German Ambassador to India, Walter J. Lindner, the Director of the National Horticulture Board, and Janakpuri MLA Rajesh Rishi.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Sisodia said, "Delhi Government has been traditionally organising this festival for the past 31 years and it is a great way to know more about the King of Fruits- Mangoes. Mango Growers have time and again surprised us with the ever-evolving varieties they bring forth."
The 31st Mango Festival unfolded over 500 varieties of mangoes, which are on display at the event. The various types of mangoes on display include Langra, Chausa, Amrapali, Rataul, Hussainara, Ramkela, Kesar, Fazri, Mallika and other assorted varieties.
Sisodia said that the enthusiasm of people towards the exhibition as well as the competitions showcases their love for this fruit. "I am sure the next two days will be equally engaging with other activities and cultural programmes," he added.
The Mango Festival aims to showcase the specialties of mangoes from different states of India. A total number of 20 farmers along with government horticulture departments and agriculture institutes have participated in the event. The exhibition at the festival also offers the sale of processed mango items including products like pickles, jam, chutney, mango pulp, mango juice, jelly, aam papad, and aam panna.
