Three kids drown in Gzb pond

Ghaziabad: Three minor kids, aged between 8 to 12 years, were drowned in a pond while trying to catch duck in Ambedkar Nagar area in Loni area of Ghaziabad on Thursday evening. Police along with NDRF team rescued bodies of the three children on Friday morning.

According to police, the deceased were identified as Altamas Ali (8), Arham Ali (11) and Abhishek (9), natives of Ambedkar Nagar area . Cops said that Altamas and Arham were cousin brothers.

As per reports, the incident occurred on Thursday evening around 5 pm when the trio of kids have gone to play at a nearby park.

"Abhishek told me that he is going to play with his friends but when he didn't come back home for more that two hours, we began searching him but failed to trace. Around 8 pm, we informed police but the bodies could not be traced till late Thursday night," said Poonam, Abhishek's mother.

Police officials said that they were informed by a few other kids that the three children had gone to catch duck to a nearby pond.

Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, Superintendent of Police (rural), told Millennium Post that while looking for the missing children they found their clothes and shoes lying near the pond and launched an intensified search operation into the pond.

"Police found their clothes and shoes lying near the pond and suspected that they might have drowned inside. An intensified search operation was launched and NDRF teams were called but by the time they reached, police recovered bodies of two children at around 4 am on Friday while the third body was recovered with the help of NDRF team a few hours later. The bodies were handed over to the family as they have denied for getting a post mortem done," said Jadaun.

"As of now we have not registered any case into the matter but we are preparing a report which will be sent to the administration and concerned authorities who will initiate appropriate actions into the case. Police will also identify the dangerous ponds in the area and will send to the district administration. We will request the district administration to make boundary wall adjacent to these ponds to avoid such mishaps," added Jadaun.
