Three Gzb cops including SHO suspended on graft charges

Police seized the money being used in gambling and also took bribe to let accused go

Ghaziabad: In yet another case of bribery against a station house officer (SHO) at one of the police stations in Ghaziabad, the senior superintendent of Police (SSP) has suspended three senior cops including the SHO of Indirapuram police station and two sub-inspectors for allegedly taking bribery of around Rs 14 lakh for not undertaking any proceedings against thirteen gamblers who were caught red handed by police from a hotel on the intervening night of October 22 and 23.

According to police, SHO Indirapuram Inspector Deepak Sharma, Chowki in-charge of Shipra Sun City police post Sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar and Sub-inspector Sachin kumar have been suspended by police.

"Police had received a tip-off that gambling is going on at a couple of rooms in hotel Grand Inn in sector 4 of Vaishali under indirapuram police station. Both the sub-inspectors conducted raid and arrested four persons from room number 109 and nine persons from room number 209 of the hotel. During investigations it came to light that police seized the money which was being used in gambling and also took bribe to let the accused persons go. It was revealed that around Rs 14 lakhs were involved in the incident," said Keshav Kumar Mishra, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ghaziabad, investigating officer in the case. The officer further said that the incident took place under the knowledge of Indirapuram SHO and his involvement in the incident was also confirmed.

"During probe, it was revealed that SHO Indirapuram Inspector Deepak Sharma was also involved in the incident and he also shared the money which was recovered by police. Police have managed to recover Rs 4 lakhs from the accused persons which was involved in the incident. The SSP Ghaziabad had earlier sent all the three cops to police lines in connection with the same matter. An FIR has been registered against them under IPC section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) and other relevant sections of prevention of corruption act. A report into the matter has been sent to the SSP for further probe," added Mishra.

Meanwhile, the SSP Ghaziabad, Sudhir Kumar Singh said that the SHO and both the SI, have been suspended on Sunday and they will be arrested after the investigation is completed by Circle Officer-4.
