Thief trying to escape falls off 9th floor, dies

Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old thief died while trying to escape after allegedly committing a robbery inside a flat in Ambaji Apartments in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Police officers said the thief allegedly slipped from the ninth floor of the building while trying to come down the gas pipe

According to the police, the incident happened around 4 am on Wednesday when one of the flat owners raised an

alarm about a thief in the society premises. Following the complaint, a few security guards rushed to the building and saw the man trying to come down the building through the gas pipe line. As the thief saw them, he slipped from the ninth floor in a hurry and fell on the ground floor, said police.

"The security guard of the society informed the police about the incident. A police team reached the spot and found him dead. Police have recovered few ornament, cutters and other tools used for burglar which suggested he was attempting to commit or had committed a burglary in the apartment complex," said Shlok Kumar, Superintendent of Police (city), Noida.

Police are yet to identify the deceased while they have informed a few suspected persons to help them identify the man.

"We are making efforts to identify him. He may be a suspect in the burglaries that have occurred in the past in the same society and in adjoining housing societies. We can only ascertain his involvement in other incidents of robbery once we are able to identify him" added Kumar.
