These sporting activities to be kept outside DU quota

New Delhi: The administration of Delhi University has decided to exempt some of the sports from the ambit of sports quota. A member of Delhi University standing committee stated, "committee members have collaboratively decided to include only those games in the sports quota, which fall under the category of Olympics, Asiad and Common Wealth Games."

"Accordingly some games that will be deluded from the sports quota are Korfball, Soft ball (excluded only for boys), Handminton, Ball badminton, Baseball and yoga, Though, yoga is included in ECA (Extra Curricular Activities)," official said.

"Apart from this Kho-Kho, Cricket and Chess will stay in the sports quota. Previously 33 games were included under sports quota but now only 27 games will remain," official added.

Though, the experts are expecting this year that admissions rate through sports quota will fall this year as the Admission Council of DU has instructed every college of its university to reserve 1 per cent seats for ECA among the 5 percent sports quota. Total seats calculating both the quotas is 3,100.

The official further added that the standing committee has sent three proposals to the Academic Council- The DU entrance exam should be taken in both English and Hindi Medium.

The exams include every other programmes excluding the language programme. The students from government schools and village areas should be provided 1 per cent reservation in cut-off. The ward quota reservation for teaching and non-teaching staff should be increased. Presently 3 seats for each category is reserved.
